Our first visit to Taos, NM had us staying at Hotel Luna Mystica, which is a vintage trailer hotel in the mesa of Taos. They also host the Starlight Campground which we will get to shortly. Each trailer has a name and story. It was hard to choose which trailer to stay in – each comes with a unique personality and decor. Apollo – a 1960 Airstream – seemed to call to us. So for our first visit to Hotel Luna Mystica we stayed there. The mesa views heading towards the mountains are gorgeous from this location. And the people in front of and behind the scenes at this hotel have always been wonderful to us during each of our visits.
Oh, and have I mentioned yet that dogs are welcome? They are so pet friendly! They mention they have lots of space for the pups to run, but if you want to keep them closer, each trailer comes equipped with dog leash loops on the decks. To be honest, I have never been to a more pet friendly hotel. And each time we have stayed, all guests with dogs have respected this – cleaning up after their dogs, leashing as necessary, etc. This is an important factor for us when we travel as we try to include our pups in most of our trips and adventures. Brewster loved her stay at Hotel Luna Mystica. And she would often venture through the trailer door when we left it open to bask in the sun on the deck.
And now we get to the Starlight Campground. Open land just to the north of the hotel proper. Here you can pitch a tent, park a camper, van, or an RV. Note that this is open land and considered primitive (no hook-ups). For $25 per day you get to enjoy the beautiful mesa views before you with the mountains of Taos Ski Valley. You also get access to the very clean wash rooms (bathroom, shower – indoor and outdoor). For each of our additional stays we have stayed at the Starlight Campground. And will definitely be back! Oh and quick word of fun advice – bring a kite with you when you go. You will undoubtedly have some wind run through the mesa during your stay – and it is the perfect kite playground!
